Houston, Texas USA 10 November 2003 A Professor from Germany and a scientist from the USA have been named 2004 recipients of the two highest awards granted by the International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers, Inc. (IISRP).
Professor Doctor Eckhard Löser, formerly the Director of Bayer’s Institute of Industrial Toxicology in Leverkusen, Germany, will receive the General Award and Dr. Albert Moore, retired from DuPont Dow Elastomers, will receive the Technical Award. The Awards will be formerly presented during the IISRP’s 45th Annual General Meeting in Warsaw, Poland, the week of 17 May 2004.
Professor Löser is being honored for his contributions to the development and management of IISRP’s Scientific Research Program on 1, 3 butadiene. He chaired the Institute’s Butadiene Steering Committee and forged a product stewardship initiative that continues today, almost 25 years later. He is a member of numerous worldwide scientific societies, including the Society of Toxicology, the World Health Organization, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. He has numerous publications and contributions to textbooks.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Natural Science from Cologne University in 1959 and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Biology and Chemistry at Cologne in 1964. He spent his full career at Bayer, retiring in 2000. He continues his scientific contribution as consultant to government and private organizations.
Dr. Albert Moore is being honored for his technical contributions to the research, development, and industrialization of specialty EPDM and fluoroelastomers. He holds more than 20 process patents. He has applied his knowledge of catalyst kinetics and viscosity relationships to construct computer models to control polymerization processes. Until his recent retirement, he continued to provide much of the technology for new product industrialization at DuPont Dow.
He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University and a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He began his career with DuPont in 1961 as a Research Engineer in the Elastomers Chemicals Department at the DuPont R & D Center. He was a DuPont fellow and the time of his retirement was the only recognized Senior DuPont Dow Scientist. He was recognized as DuPont Dow and DuPont Corporate Inventory in 1999 and was one of the recipients of DuPont’s Lavoisier Medal Award for technical achievements in 2000.
The IISRP is an international not-for-profit trade association with 45 corporate members domiciled in 21 countries producing more than 90% of the world’s supply of synthetic elastomers. Incorporated in 1960 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, the Institute supports regional offices in London and Tokyo.
